Kent Career Tech Center Hosts Open House

Two neighboring buildings to tour

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Kent Career Tech Center will be open February 7 and 8 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in two neighboring buildings including a new dedicated space for Advanced Manufacturing.  The Tech Center offers a range of beginning to in-depth career-focused educational opportunities for all students.

“By creating opportunities for students to see and explore more and demonstrate more, we believe we’re going to create and give students the opportunity to achieve their full potential,” said Kent ISD superintendent Ron Koehler. “The Tech Center’s variety of options meets a strategic goal to be the leader in student-centered programming and fulfilling student needs.”

Kent Career Tech Center offers nearly 30 programs and career pathways for high school juniors and seniors who get hands-on experience in high-tech labs while having opportunities to earn free high school, technical school and college credit. Each program prepares students for success in career and college, and many offer opportunities to earn professional certifications.

An Advanced Manufacturing area is being created to include high-tech, state of the art labs where students experience hands-on learning in Welding, Engineering, Precision Machining and Mechatronics. Programs from Health Careers to Automotive, Hospitality, Teacher Academy, IT and Agriscience are also available to students along with exploration and introductory courses in industrial technology, business services and general vocational skill development.

“We are dedicated to helping all students find success in careers and college as we expand opportunities for everyone,” said Kent Career Tech Center principal Joe Lienesch. “We are excited to welcome visitors to our campus and to the new Advanced Manufacturing space during Open House where students will be demonstrating the skills they are learning that can be applied directly to careers and college opportunities after high school.”

The public is invited to explore the labs and programs in Kent Career Tech Center’s two buildings and meet instructors and current students at their Open House, February 7 and 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Both Tech Center buildings are located on Kent ISD’s main campus at 1655 East Beltline NE and 1800 Leffingwell NE in Grand Rapids.
