Pharmacy Program Overview

The Pharmacy Technician program is intended for students that would like to become a pharmacy technician, intend to pursue an advanced degree in pharmacy, or are planning to work in virtually any healthcare career that has contact with medications. It introduces students to all phases of the pharmacy field including actions and uses of drug products, the operation of a 21st century pharmacy, and the professional skills necessary to succeed in healthcare.

Students enrolled in the Pharmacy Technician program will learn to identify hundreds of common medications and their uses, will prepare medications from ointments to IV’s and operate a mock ambulatory/retail pharmacy in the classroom. Our lab area is designed to simulate a pharmacy setting that should be instantly recognizable to anyone who has had a prescription filled, with drug storage and preparation areas along side prescription drop off/pickup  and patient consulting areas. Pharmacy Technician students will also have the opportunity to observe and participate in real community and hospital pharmacy settings. At the end of the program students may take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam and become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT), the nationally recognized industry certification. Certification is necessary to become licensed as a pharmacy technician in Michigan.

Eligible students can earn American Heart BLS (CPR) and First Aid certification. Students may also earn High School Credit equalling 1 credit of Science and 0.5 credit of Math (awarding of credit is done by student's sending school and subject to their approval).
