First Day of School: Where do I go?

The first day of school at the Kent Career Tech Center is Monday, August 21. Here are some things you may need to know!
When are class times?
- 1st Session: 6:55 am - 9:10 am
- 2nd Session: 9:15 am - 11:30 am
- 3rd Session: 12:00 am - 2:15 pm
How am I getting to KCTC?
Student transportation to and from KCTC is the responsibility of their local school district and family. KCTC does not provide student transportation to and from the local districts. However, we provide shuttles from our main campus to our satellite campuses in downtown Grand Rapids and at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. If students, parents, or guardians have questions about transportation to KCTC, they should contact their Local School District.
Local School District Bus Drop-off Locations
Local school district (the student’s sending High School) transportation will drop off and pick up KCTC students at either LOT #1 or Lot #5. Parking lot locations are identified on the linked Kent ISD Campus Map.

If you do not see your local school district above, please contact our Main office at (616)364-8421 for guidance and assistance.
But, what if my parent/guardian is driving me?
All students dropped off by parents/guardians should be dropped off at LOT #2. This drop-off loop is designed to make this process easier and more efficient for students and families. All students dropped off at this location should only enter the building through the LOT #2 main doors (Door D-117). LOT #2 and its building entrance/exit are also the designated pick-up location for students.
Student Parking Permits
Students driving to the KCTC campus can park in either Lot #1 or #5 until they receive their assigned lot number. Students must complete the KCTC parking permit before driving and parking on campus. This form must be signed by a local school district (High School) administrator or administrative designee. All students planning to drive and park on campus should have this form turned in to the KCTC office by Friday, September 8th. After that date, we will communicate directly with students, indicating their parking lot assignments for the school year. Students can pick up copies of the KCTC Driving Permit in the Main Office or download here.
Where are my classes?
Students should have received a letter this summer from KCTC that indicates the program they are enrolled in, their teacher’s name, and a classroom/lab room number. You can see maps here. It is helpful for students to look at this map before the first day and identify the general location of their classroom/lab. However, there is no need to worry, as there will be plenty of staff in the hallways and common areas helping students find their way on the first few days of school!
How do I get on PowerSchool?
At KCTC, we use PowerSchool for our Student Information System. PowerSchool provides online access to student's grades, attendance, discipline, student and family contact information, etc. Parents/guardians should create their Parent Portal account before the first day of school, and students will receive their login information and access directions during the first few days of school. Below are some resources that can be accessed to help support parents/guardians with this process. For additional assistance, the PowerSchool Help Desk is available via email at helpdesk@kentisd.org or phone at (616)301-8848 or watch this video.
Student Handbook
Students and families should review the student handbook to receive more detailed information regarding campus policies and procedures, and it is an excellent resource for more comprehensive KCTC information.
