Sarah Waller, Instructor

Hello! My name is Sarah Waller.

I have been teaching at the Kent Career Techincal center since 2009.  I currently teach advanced baking and pastries.

Industry experience/background

After earning my associates degree at Grand Rapids Community College I found myself moving to Chicago and working at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. I had my first pastry chef position at The Green Dolphin Street Restaurant and Jazz Club in Chicago. I was ready to come back home to Michigan and found a home at Egypt Valley Country Club in Ada where I worked as the pastry chef for almost four years. While at Egypt Valley I was introduced to the staff at the tech center and volunteered for evaluations and demonstrations.

Special professional interests

I love to travel and to learn about different cuisines and cultures. My career has taken me to many countries. I am grateful to have had an opportunity to see many different places while trying new foods and meeting new people.

My favorite thing about being a teacher

I love working with students hands on and showing them something new. I honestly believe that if I can do this anyone can. Watching students grow as they move through the program and find their niche in the field is very rewarding. I feel very lucky to be a teacher in such a great facility that allows us to give students hands on experience in the hospitality field.
