Hello, My name is Donna Jones. I am the Program Coordinator/Instructor for the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course at Kent Career Technical Center main campus. I have been a nurse for over 25 years and have worked in a variety of settings such as neurology, gerontology, obstetrics and women’s health. I received Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Grand Valley State University in 1993. In 2009, I completed my Masters of Arts in Career and Technical Education (MA) from Western Michigan University.
When I am not at work, I spend my free time with my family. I have a supportive husband, and three active children. My oldest has completed the CNA program is working at a local nursing home and headed to MSU in the fall majoring in Nursing. My middle daughter is a junior and is a dancer. My son is an avid lacrosse player and wrestler. My children are passionate about very different sports and activities so I am on the “go” frequently. When at home, I enjoy time with our dog- Jake and family, gardening and decorating the house.
I transitioned to teaching in 2005. I have never looked back! I realized that I enjoy sharing my experiences knowledge of health care with students that will likely follow in similar paths. Choosing to work in health care takes a special person and I enjoy assisting students in developing their gifts and talents. I find satisfaction in knowing that our school really teaches “real life learning” and that our time spent in the hospital and nursing home settings gives students a chance to work as a CNA. CNA students leave KCTC well-rounded, career ready and prepared for the next steps in life!
